IS CHANGE ALWAYS GOOD?

"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, not the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change." - Charles Darwin, "The Origin of Species"

In terms of imperative our environment is God and in a chaos of change, slams the emergent organism with a blizzard of demands. It is only the most highly mutable genome that can adapt and survive its bombardment.

Some of the bedraggled earmarks of human adaptative responses to change can be seen in the rapid growth of current our version of reality found in the 24/7 Network Society. Our frantic efforts at response and adaptation can be seen the frenzied looks of humanity now caught in the explosions of informational fallout upon the senses: the loss of identity, the diversity of spiritual paths, social confusion and technological misdirection.

In a society driven by unending schedules and informational overloads we find a lack of time/space orientation and the need for a fulfilling concept of "being" that is applicable to the NOW. In the concept of a NOW space, one can find comfort in something that frees them, albeit intellectually, from the dissonance of this storm of information that blurs the edges of what is real.

The God of yore that was identifiable in terms of a "outside" readily attainable entity, who guided us and could be reached through intercession or prayer, has slowly dissolved and replaced by philosophy and ideas that attest to our need for mental, emotional and spiritual direction.

Perhaps we have turned away from this 'outward' source, or parochial God that we knew from simple tribal states when information was minimal and reality was simple, because and in response to this surplus of information from "outside" sources. The God of change we leaned about in Biology 101 who taught us all we needed to know through stimulus/response, has fallen in the light of informational overload, and our reaction can be seen in this tendency of mankind to trash the environment, as if in retaliation for the additional chaos that has become far too much to bear.

Could it be that humanity is at war with God?

In this input from 'outsourcing' we find in the informational age of the 24/7 Network Society, can be found the fallout of intellectual arrogance and its partner, disharmony. The consequences of this bombardment from our top intellectuals is revealed in the lost, vacant eyes of our youth now far from the country home of yesterday, hooked on Ipod, and the endless quest of adults haplessly searching through media streams, sheep who have strayed far away from the master—sheep who have become shepherds and who have stolen the keys to the Garden of Eden and laughed in the face of its maker.

How far and when will humankind return and by what route, are the next questions that need an answer. Can an escape from the vortex of the 24/7 Network Society's informational time stream save us, or will it simply bog us more deeply in the blizzard of informational chaos that now seems almost insurmountable?

Right from the beginning of the book, its introduction, even the concept of 24/7 lends itself to an overload of detail that leaves us struggling for meaning in the wake of its swift passage:

"First it seems worthwhile, no matter how appropriate or taken for granted the term 24/7 may seem, to try to define or explain what it means. The designation turns out to be of uncertain provenance. Google wasn’t much help to us in trying to clear things up. With characteristic overkill it located some 171,000,000 pages of possible relevance (in 0.17 seconds). After sifting through the first ten results, however, we were already discouraged. Predictably, perhaps, most of the results were related to media companies who for one reason or another had 24/7 in either their company name or as an indication of the time frame in which they promise to deliver their product or service. The only exception to this commercial rule was 24/7 Prayer (http://www.24/ prayer.com), which offers “non-stop prayer’” across the nation."1

This remark and its obvious suggestion, clearly accentuates the desperation in terms of identity loss and spiritual misdirection that is the direct result of an informational overkill!

ODE TO EPIGENETICS

There once was a grieving cell
Who felt isolated from the Whole
Because some pesky biologist
Had enucleated his individual soul—
To find out how why we congregate, he said,
Into complex groups of three or four,
They had cut out his beating heart
And left him empty at the core!
But some kindly soul came along
To tap him on the back,
He said, don’t worry my little friend
It isn’t unity you lack;
No need now for silly reproducing
Or division--here’s the latest score--
The DNA God is dead
And you are free to soar!
Now all you need is to embrace
The HOLOVERSE as a single entity—
Reach out beyond the limited Self
To visions of what true UNITY CAN BE!
Note: This poem is dedicated to Dr. Bruce Lipton and all those who were a part of his great new discoveries in genetical research and the new science of Epigenetics.

ARE OUR GENES GOD?

Are we, as Richard Dawkins suggests, sacrifices to our genes, or do we have a choice in the matter? The question that arises is how far do we take the sacrificial equation? For instance Dawkins portrays us as: "Survival machines--robot vehicles." The Selfish Gene, Oxford University Press, Great Britain, 1990.

But isn't that a double entendre? After all, if we are 'robots' doesn't that negate self-awareness?
Dawkins wrote: "We are survival machines--robot vehicles blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes." My question is, what does this say about Dawkins' sense of self-awareness and control? Perhaps he is the robot who feels controlled by a power beyond himself--dare we call it a genetic God? His comments all seem to hint that "the devil made me do it," the deus ex machina, the ghost in the machine that is responsible for his behavior and somehow is keeping him from acting responsibly to address his own issues on will.

This idea sets a dangerous precedent, because if we buy into it, the right to "free will" must be thrown out the window. Let's face it, altruism requires action on our part--to change the world in a constructive manner, takes persoal action. If we are controlled by a selfish gene that demands sacrifice without compensation, then the results of the sacrifice would be in vein. Would you not agree with this contention?

Dawkins does not include, as far as I know, any recognition of the importance of numinous transformations of consciousness and the Maharishi effect, that encounter with the Divine which produces an epiphany and changes our direction in life from a selfish mode, to one that produces extreme acts of selfless-sacrifice to others or to the world as a Whole.

In its place he writes about a male mantis that is eaten by the female during copulation to insure the continuation of the species. Unfortunately, this example doesn't include any participatory insights into the male's consciousness of the role he plays in the act. In fact, the interpretation almost comes off sounding suspiciously anti-female--

More specifically, the ultimate question that unfolds, is what part in our genetic evolution do we play? Isn't there something positive in us that influences the future to change the course of human history--wasn't that trait implicate in Darwin's assumptions that evolution has a goal; that of survival--survival for what and at what price, seems the bigger quest.

What is the ultimate implication here, that we change just for our individual self-fulfillment or is it ultimately that the species AND THE PLANET as a WHOLE, is assured?

Somehow I think that beneath it all, God has managed to survive in this Wholeness we have managed to assign to our own demands.

With human conscientiousness~

WHEN GOD THINKS, HOLON/PHONONS ARE BORN

Thought is at the nucleus of all creation, big and small, whole and part. In fact, original thought created the holoverse. And it is this originating first thoughts of the Creator that produces the Whole and its myriad separate parts. The Parts, as we encounter them, are simply different levels or dimensions of first creation, in the relative scheme of thing. The truth is, neither Wholes nor Parts exist by themselves, but are reflective of the perceptual limitations of our mortal sensory apparatus, and when viewed from the point of the Creator, linear time doesn't actually exist either; its illusory nature is only due to our relative apperception of the Whole we percieve of wave-like stages in the parts that meet the sensory eye.

In the wholistic scheme of things, when the Creator thinks, billions of galaxies are born. From these originating thoughts mega-systems of universes, are spewn forth linked together through a common holistic bond. The galaxies are the nuclei of these original thought forms seen emanating from visions within the Creator's mind.

There are two specific parts to this Wholistic Pattern of Creation, as I perceive it; let us start with the first:

1) A pattern of Wholeness guides Creation, let us call it a holon. A holon is an innate unified pattern of Whole/Parts, according to its discoverer, the well known spiritual philospher of our time, Ken Wilber. He states that there are no Wholes or Parts, only holons, "Wholes within Wholes." This concept is based on a view of reality as a process of becoming that follows a common pattern from which all things evolve, while maintaining an integral holistic link; something like the process of autopoeisis, i.e. a self-replicating or organizing principle that connects the Whole to each Part without compromising the integrity. Let us think of it as a continuous or connective unit of wholeness within every part. This continuous connectivity is a Wholistic Binding Principle behind the ongoing creation of Maya.

The second part of this principle I shall describe as a phonon or Sound Bite. A phonon, according to quantum scientists, occurs when temperature approaches absolute zero, and sound behaves like quantum particles. At this point sound becomes a "bite" or a congealed, vibratory frequency unit. At this point sound has materialized as a physical mass. A phonon could be simply described as a thought form, or a "sound bite" projected from the mind of the Creator. To become a material object in the Maya of physicality, it must go through a vibratory focus change to assume relative mass as an object.

In the light of these two definitions, we now arrive at a the combination of holons and phonons as holon/phonons, which translates to a self-replicating pattern created from the mind of the Creator. Now comes the reduction of this concept to its personally relative essentials; bare in mind that the creation of thought forms is going on all the time within our deepest Self. We are holon/phonons of the Creator, i.e., we create our reality in the same manner as the Original Creator.

A question comes to mind, what are you doing with your creative energy today? Are you creating a Holoverse that is aware of itself, or are you diverting your creative energies into a dissipative chaos?

Looked at from a positive perspective, a holon/phonon is tetrahedronal in nature, that is, it radiates positive energy outward from its nucleus, but if it is focused inwardly, like a black hole, its radiation of light only survives as a meagre virtual particle; and thus its light only radiates at best in half light.

Take full charge of your creation holon/phonon, and let your Godly light shine out!

ENCOUNTER WITH AN ANGEL

It was December 1978 and bitterly cold. Besides being one of the worst blizzards Oklahoma had experienced in the southeastern section of the state, it was my misfortune to get caught out in it after a long, hard walk up from Florida, where a friend and I had gone searching for work in an old milk van, converted into a camper. After a few weeks of slim pickings and little if no work, we began to feud and it was clear that one of us had to leave or we might end up destroying what was left of a great friendship. So it became obvious that one of us would have to leave, and since it was technically his van, it was clear it would be me. Later that night, parked near a beach, I decided to pack what little clothes I had and head off hitch-hiking to Oklahoma. I optimistically figured it wouldn’t be any trouble at all for one person to get a few rides and in no time arrive there; even if I had no more than a five-dollar bill in my wallet. I was accustomed to going the distance lean, after all, we had struggled for a month to make it on little money or food.
Later that night, I got up, tossed the backpack on my back and said, “Good by, old buddy, I’m sorry, but one of us has to go and it might as well be me.” I closed the door and walked out into the warm night air, feeling slightly saddened but very positive, thinking how could anything go wrong. But that was in sunny Orlando, Florida where the nights were balmy and the days beautiful—not a hint of what lay ahead for me.
Though it was late, I stuck my thumb out and fortune smiled on me. The first car that came by stopped and I got in. The driver was a pleasant older man, out to see the world, and in need of companionship and a second hand to spell him from the hypnotic effects of the road. We talked for a while, I drove and went on through the night. I guess that first ride lasted about two hours when I found myself entering Alabama. You see, I had decided to take the southern route, where it was warm, cut up through Louisiana into Texarkana and from there to Oklahoma. I said, “Thank you,” and stepped out of the car into the night as he drove off in the distance, his taillights dimming the further he went, until they winked out.
I loved walking and hitchhiking. It was always good to me. Why, in those days a person could stick their thumb out and hitch anywhere they wanted in the U.S. in a few days. But that was, as I recall, back in the sixties when everyone was a little more trusting. I guess I expected it to be that way again—but it wasn’t.
Instead, after about a couple of hours walking and hitching I began to realize that no one seemed to care. Several hours later, I lost some of my enthusiasm, sat down on the side of the road and tried hitching from there, but to no avail. Strange, I thought, it never had been this hard before. So I made a sign like those you sometime see held up by hitchhikers to catch your attention. Mine read: TULSA OR BUST! Thinking back, maybe that wasn’t the best of signs.
Anyway, to make a long story short--it didn’t work. So I got up and hitched some more while walking. Between bouts of walking, sitting down and holding up the sign, I tried singing, then meditating on my Oneness with the Universe. That was one of my favorite mental-spiritual past time, especially when I had a lot of time and things were starting to worry me, plus humming old Beatles songs. Suffice it to say, this singing, walking and meditation went on for several days, sustained only by brief rides, in which I immediately fell asleep when I got a lift, and diversions to get water, buy fruit or an inexpensive sandwich. By the time I got to Louisiana, it was clear this was not my day or week. It was as though Spirit had abandoned me, left me to the wolves, to survive on my own wits without a bit of help.
I began to feel a little sad and frustrated. It was winding on into three days and during some of the weary nights a soaking, cold rain fell upon my weakened condition, and I began to feel the onset of a throaty cough welling up in my respiratory tract. That, I didn’t like. Struggling against the elements and feeling the rejection of people on the road was one thing, but suffering from a physical ailment was new to me. I guess that came from a part of my ingrained self-confidence that I could always make it, that is, the knowledge that my health was reliable. But now, with this cold and my weakened condition, it began to dawn on me that this trip would test me in new ways I had never experienced before. Coming up through Texarkana and moving into Oklahoma, a Native American brother gave me a lift and half his sandwich, which was next to a minor miracle, because I had long ago ran out of cash. He dropped me off somewhere South East of Tulsa, near McAlester, Oklahoma, which was perhaps 190 miles to my destination. I was so grateful to see a sign indicating that I was getting closer to Tulsa, even if it meant facing one of the worst storms Oklahoma had seen in years. I laughed it off, thinking, no sweat—I’ll make it, even if I have to walk all the way!
It was around 1:00 A.M. in the morning, the bleak sky and frozen landscape seemed to compound the feeling of desperation that began to gnaw at me, that this just might be my last hitchhiking trip I would ever try to undertake. Looking up at the driving snow, feeling the biting cold, wet slush as it was flung up on me by the roaring trucks that rushed by like heartless ghosts in the road, and sensing the weakness running through my rapidly tiring legs, told me that things better change and quick, or I could be the victim of freezing or hyperthermia. My situation really wasn’t funny. In fact, it became horrifying how my body started caving in. Where was my strength that I had always relied on? Now I felt like a hacking weakling. “No!” I cried out at the frigid night, “I will not give up!” I will keep on, regardless, relentlessly to my goal. Like always, I would make it, no matter what!
After about twenty miles of slugging through the slush, it became obvious that no one cared. In fact, they nearly ran me over, maybe not even seeing me, so I stayed far over to the side, walking on the shoulder or in the grass. And believe me, that was even more difficult walking, if you have ever walked through high, frozen grass late at night.
The powerful wind drove the crystallized snow particles into my face as I fought to keep moving ahead. Just about the time that I felt tears welling from my eyes in desperation and I began talking to myself like a raving lunatic to keep moving, I noticed something that caught my eye, high in the night sky and off in the distance. It was a thick, roseate cloud that moved suspiciously toward me, as if gravitating in my direction. Something about its movement and sudden appearance attracted me, almost with rapt curiosity to its presence; I cannot say what that intuition was, except that it spoke to me in a personal way. Sure, many will think me delusional, a maddened victim of my condition, driven to fanciful hallucinations and odd dreams. Certainly, I was exhausted, ready to fall, if the truth was known. But none-the-less I stood stock still, magnetized by that cloud’s presence as it drew near me. One thing that stood out clearly, as it slowly passed over, was its odd, red color that grew brighter as it turned toward me, exposing a figure in its midst. There, lo and behold, in its shape and form, I could see the wondrous outline of a figure that I immediately knew to be the Holy Mother. Miraculous though it may be, there she was, her arms outstretched toward me, her face smiling benevolently. From her hands poured a glowing light that radiated down on me, and as it did, I jumped, thrilled by her touch like a person receiving the Holy Ghost. Waves of heat passed through me. I began crying and laughing all at once! An incredibly powerful force permeated my body and every part was warmed.
Without a moment of doubt, my whole Spirit changed! I sang songs again, laughed and cried out loud to the night, reveling in my blessing. And things did change. Rapidly and without my efforts, a car came through the blowing snow and blackness to stop in the highway across from me. I could see a man wiping the window and looking. I didn’t even try to catch his attention, because I knew he came for me!
Sure enough, he cut through the snow banks piled high on each side and made his way up to me. I stopped, looked over at him as he rolled the window down and said, “Someone laid it on my heart to come and get you.” I said, “Yes, I know, it was the Holy Mother!” He continued, “Come on, get in. When was the last time you ate?” I replied, “Yesterday,” and sank into the warm interior of the seat next to him. “Come on,” he continued, “I’m going to feed you.” From there we drove to an all night diner. We went in and he ordered eggs and waffles for me, drank a cup of coffee, and read a newspaper. I felt love for this stranger fill my heart. When I got done eating, he looked over at me and said, “I’m going fifty miles in the other direction, but because someone laid it on my heart to rescue you, I have decided to take you the 175 miles you need to go to Tulsa.” I was overjoyed and thanked him profoundly, knowing in my heart that if Spirit hadn’t touched him, my fate would be to face the harsh elements and, in my desperate condition, perish.
After eating, we went out to the car and I got in and laid back on the seat, promptly passing out. Hours later, I awoke to find us pulling up to the address of the house I’d given him, of my good friend, Barry, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As I got up and shook his hand, turning toward him, I suddenly knew exactly who he was, looked him in the eye and said, “I know who you are.” He smiled, looked at me with sincerity and replied, “Who do you think I am?” I said with unwavering certainty, straight from my heart, “You’re an angel!” He continued to smile and said, “Bless God, my friend.”
Epilogue
When I went up to the house and knocked, my friend Barry opened the door saying, “You look like you have lost a lot of weight and must be very tired. Come on in.” As I stepped in, full of happiness in spite of my exhausted condition, he suddenly pointed to a shadowy figure, “Look,” he said, “there’s an image of the Virgin Mary on the wall over you!” I looked and was amazed to see that there she was again, shimmering in the light of a lamp, her arms outstreched, just like I had seen her on the road. And you know, to this day, I can still feel her presence near me during times of crisis, ever vigilant. I will never forget that moment and feel that her presence bestowed upon me the opportunity to share my spiritual experiences with others.
